Welcome to Purple Town
A modern day & distinctly Mancunian musical
Purple Town is an original new musical set in Manchester, a city famous for doing things differently. Against a backdrop of football rivalry, colour, noise and tribal loyalties, the story follows Toby and Sue – two young people from opposite sides of the city’s biggest divide. What begins as a chance encounter soon becomes something much more complicated as family, friends and long-held prejudices threaten to pull them apart.
Packed with original songs, humour and larger-than-life characters, Purple Town uses the red-versus-blue rivalry as a lens to explore the divisions that exist throughout society. Race, religion, age, class and identity all collide in a world where everyone seems determined to choose a side. But beneath the banter, the chants and the stereotypes lies a simple question: what happens when people start seeing each other as individuals instead of labels?
At its heart, Purple Town is a show about connection, community and finding common ground in an increasingly divided world. Funny, provocative and unmistakably Mancunian, it celebrates the idea that while the world often encourages us to live in red towns or blue towns, perhaps the future belongs in a Purple Town.
